The story mainly revolves around two protagonists: Shoya Ishida In elementary school, out of boredom, he began to bully Shoko Nishimiya, a new transfer student with a hearing impairment. As the bullying incident was exposed, he lost the trust of his friends and class, becoming an outcast. Later, he felt deep remorse and tried to find meaning and a path to atonement. Shoko Nishimiya She came to the new school with a congenital hearing impairment, communicating with classmates through sign language and written notes, but was ostracized because of it. She is kind and strives to communicate with others, but also became vulnerable due to her bullying experience. Years later, Shoya attempts to reconnect with Shoko, apologize to her, and help her find friendship and self-confidence. The two gradually come to understand each other, embarking on a journey of atonement, forgiveness, and growth.
