Your Name." Holy Site Pilgrimage part2 | Tokyo · Minato Ward Chapter
If Hida Furukawa was Mitsuha's dreamland, then Tokyo was Taki's steel jungle of getting lost and searching.
Tokyo, as depicted by Makoto Shinkai, is not just a backdrop, but a stage that turns the gears of fate. As a pilgrimage traveler, I decided to follow Taki's footsteps for this day's itinerary, starting from that classic red handrail staircase, passing through the bustling Roppongi, and finally embarking on a journey of searching at Tokyo Station.
This is not just a check-in, but a journey undertaken for that phrase, 'Perhaps, I am looking for someone.'

Route Overview & Tips (Route & Tips)
This itinerary connects Tokyo's 'Minato Ward' and 'Shinjuku/Shibuya' commercial districts, using key scenes from the movie as clues.
SeichiGo Tip: This is a typical 'special forces' route with a lot of walking. Indoor venues, especially The National Art Center, Tokyo, have strict closing times, so it's recommended to start early.
1. Taki's Part-time Life: Heading to Minato Ward
Leaving Suga Shrine, the feeling of 'loss' still lingered as I began my journey to another side of Taki's life in Tokyo – the bustling Minato Ward.
Walk approximately 400 meters from the shrine to a bus stop near Samoncho. Take Toei Bus [品97] to Aoyama Sōjō (Aoyama Funeral Hall) stop. Then walk 400 meters to The National Art Center, Tokyo.
Sitting on the swaying Tokyo bus, watching the streetscapes flash by outside the window, it felt just like the fast-paced montage scenes in the movie, full of the rhythm of a metropolis.
2. 'Taki and Okudera's Date': The National Art Center, Tokyo
Location: 7-22-2 Roppongi, Minato-ku
That wave-shaped glass curtain wall building is where Taki and Okudera-senpai had their date.
Stepping inside, the unique inverted conical concrete platform comes into view. Although the movie didn't explicitly show a close-up of the exterior, sitting in the 'Salon de Thé Rond' cafe on the second floor, that awkward yet longing teenage sentiment felt almost palpable.
Take the elevator to the 3rd floor, from here you can just see the waiter passing by with a tray, this isthe movie at 39 minutes and 22 secondsthe shot
Avoid Pitfalls Guide:
Closed on Tuesdays! Closed on Tuesdays!(Important things said three times, don't make a wasted trip)
Extended to 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, closed at 18:00 at other times.
If you want to take similar empty shots, it is recommended to visit on weekday mornings.
3. Overlooking the Tokyo Skyline: Roppongi Hills
Location:Roppongi Hills Mori Tower
Walk approximately 600 meters south from the art museum to Roppongi Hills, purchase tickets to enter the Mori Art Museum · Observatory
This is actually alsoWeathering With Youwhere Hina prayed for clear skies for the fireworks festival, but it is alsoYour Name. One of the scenes from Taki and Okudera's date. Although the original rooftop helipad (Sky Deck) was closed for some reason at the end of 2023, the observation deck of the Mori Art Museum (Tokyo City View) on the 52nd floor still offers an excellent view.
From here, you can see the distant Skytree and Tokyo Tower echoing each other.
There are many prayer stickers left by tourists near the glass windows, and many Chinese messages as well, indicating that many Chinese visitors have been here.
4. Twilight in Ebisu and Night in Shinjuku
Transportation: Hibiya Line [Roppongi] → [Ebisu], then approximately an 800-meter walk
Originally, I planned to look for the legendary sunrise overpass, but I chose a more private spot—the Sky Lounge (38F) near Ebisu Garden Place.
This is a free observation deck, with far fewer people than Shibuya. As dusk falls, Tokyo's neon lights begin to flow like veins, and the light trails of trains weaving through the city perfectly recreate the "lonely yet brilliant" modern urban texture found in Shinkai Makoto's films.
Dinner Interlude: Italian Flair in Shinjuku
Restaurant Name: Cafe La Bohéme
For dinner, you can choose the Italian restaurant where Taki works. The waiters here run down the stairs to deliver food, just like Taki, and the overall cost isn't high.
5. Order in Chaos: Shibuya Crossing
Location: Hachiko Exit, Shibuya Station
After eating and drinking your fill, how can you not visit the world's busiest intersection?
This is a recurring backdrop when Taki was busy job hunting. Standing on the street, watching the traffic lights turn green, and seeing the massive crowd instantly engulf the street, you'll deeply experience the sense of insignificance and loneliness Taki felt in the city.
📸 Photo Spot:
It's recommended to go to Starbucks on the second floor of TSUTAYA (though it's often crowded and you need to order first). From there, you can get an aerial view of the intersection through the glass, which is the best spot to observe the heartbeat of Tokyo.
Also, this isFilm at 1:36:33, the cafe where Taki rested during his job hunt, and where he met Sayaka and Teshigawara.
6. The Start of the Journey: Tokyo Station Shinkansen
The pilgrimage concludes with departure.
Early the next morning, I arrived at Tokyo Station. At46 minutes and 09 seconds into the movie, this is where Taki, guided by a sketch from memory, resolutely boarded the Shinkansen bound for Hida.
Standing on the platform, the familiar Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen logo was on the wall.
In reality, the 700 series that Taki rode back then might have been retired or is no longer common, replaced by the newer N700A or even N700S. If you sit in a window seat on the right side, as the train slowly pulls out, you can catch a fleeting glimpse of Tokyo Tower.
“I don't remember the name of that town, but I know I'm going to see her.”
After transferring to the JR Takayama Main Line at Nagoya Station, the scenery outside the window gradually changes from skyscrapers to rolling green mountains.
Next stop, Hida-Furukawa.
Conclusion
This route allowed me to step by step transition from the everyday life of Tokyo into the extraordinary world of the movie.
If you're also planning to visit Tokyo, please don't just rush through. Try to linger an extra second on the stairs of Suga Shrine, or take an extra look at the city from the observation deck in Roppongi.
Because, isn't what we call a 'pilgrimage to sacred sites' simply confirming in reality that the feelings that once moved us truly existed?
